    Sistema de consulta de notas a través de Páginas Web y de Telefonía Móvil

    In this paper we are going to present a system which lets any student at Cordoba University knows what the final qualifications he has obtained in the different subjects he is registered are. The sytem lets him consult the qualifications using Internet and mobile telephony. Teachers who are reagistered in the system can upload tha qualifications without addtional software, they only need the certificate file generated by the UcoActas application. Then, all the registered students in this subject and in this service, will receive an e-mail to notify them that they can consult the qualifications. Then, they can use a Web browser or they can use a specific mobile application to consult them. Currently we are doing functionality tests with voluntary students from different courses.En este artículo se presenta un sistema que permite a cualquier alumno de la Universidad de Córdoba informarse sobre las calificaciones finales obtenidas en las asignaturas en las que está matriculado. El sistema permite consultar las notas de las actas utilizando Internet y Telefonía Móvil. Los profesores que estén dados de alta en el sistema podrán subir las notas sin necesidad de utilizar un tercer "software", directamente con el fichero de las actas generado por el programa UcoActas. Una vez subidas las notas, todos los alumnos matriculados que estén suscritos a este servicio, recibirán un e-mail con el aviso de que la consulta en la Web está disponible. Si el alumno lo desea, también podrá consultar sus notas publicadas utilizando un programa para dispositivos móviles que hará una petición segura al sistema. Actualmente se están realizando pruebas de actualización con estudiantes voluntarios de varias asignaturas

    Realizing the ss-permutahedron via flow polytopes

    Ceballos and Pons introduced the ss-weak order on ss-decreasing trees, for any weak composition ss. They proved that it has a lattice structure and further conjectured that it can be realized as the 11-skeleton of a polyhedral subdivision of a polytope. We answer their conjecture in the case where ss is a strict composition by providing three geometric realizations of the ss-permutahedron. The first one is the dual graph of a triangulation of a flow polytope of high dimension. The second one, obtained using the Cayley trick, is the dual graph of a fine mixed subdivision of a sum of hypercubes that has the conjectured dimension. The third one, obtained using tropical geometry, is the 11-skeleton of a polyhedral complex for which we can provide explicit coordinates of the vertices and whose support is a permutahedron as conjectured.Comment: 39 pages, 14 figure

    Estimation of the Genetic Components of (Co)variance and Preliminary Genome-Wide Association Study for Reproductive Efficiency in Retinta Beef Cattle

    In this study, we analyzed the variation of reproductive efficiency, estimated as the deviation between the optimal and real parity number of females at each stage of the cow’s life, in 12,554 cows belonging to the Retinta Spanish cattle breed, using classical repeatability and random regression models. The results of the analyses using repeatability model and the random regression model suggest that reproductive efficiency is not homogeneous throughout the cow’s life. The h2 estimate for this model was 0.30, while for the random regression model it increased across the parities, from 0.24 at the first calving to 0.51 at calving number 9. Additionally, we performed a preliminary genome-wide association study for this trait in a population of 252 Retinta cows genotyped using the Axiom Bovine Genotyping v3 Array. The results showed 5 SNPs significantly associated with reproductive efficiency, located in two genomic regions (BTA4 and BTA28). The functional analysis revealed the presence of 5 candidate genes located within these regions, which were previously involved in different aspects related to fertility in cattle and mice models. This new information could give us a better understanding of the genetic architecture of reproductive traits in this species, as well as allow us to accurately select more fertile cows

    The objective of the study was to evaluate the suitability of linezolid prescription, incidence of thrombocytopenia incritically ill patients and its infl uence on critical ill patients with renal disorder before the linezolid treatment. Weobserved that the 37.5% of linezolid prescriptions were in Non-Approved Indications in Spain (NAIS). The incidenceof thrombocytopenia was 5.9%. We observed a signifi cant improvement in renal function of patients after two weeks oflinezolid treatment (p=0.024). The incidence of thrombocytopenia was similar to describe in bibliography. It seems tobe necessary approved news indications in Spain.El objeto de este estudio fue evaluar la idoneidad de prescripción de linezolid y si ésta se ajusta a las indicacionesaprobadas en España (IAE), la incidencia de trombocitopenia en pacientes críticos y la infl uencia de linezolid eneste tipo de pacientes con función renal alterada previamente a la instauración del tratamiento con dicho antibiótico.Se recogieron retrospectivamente datos clínicos y analíticos, observando que el 37.5% de las prescripcionesde linezolid eran en indicaciones no aprobadas en España (INAE), una incidencia de trombocitopenia del 5.9% yuna mejora signifi cativa de la función renal (p=0.024) tras dos semanas de tratamiento con linezolid. La incidenciade trombocitopenia en nuestro estudio fue similar a la descrita en la bibliografía. Parece necesario replantearse laampliación de las INAE

    Design and evaluation of PM Ti surfaces modified by colloidal techniques and diffusion processes for biomedical applications

    The aim of this work was the modification of the composition and surface microstructure of powder metallurgy titanium to improve the wear resistance and reduce the elastic modulus while maintaining the corrosion behavior, characteristics needed for biomedical applications. For this purpose, Mo and Nb coatings were produced by colloidal techniques. Stable aqueous suspensions were prepared from micro-sized powder of Mo and Nb particles, deposited onto the powder metallurgy titanium substrates (green or sintered). After a heat treatment to promote the diffusion and the consolidation of the layers, microstructural changes were obtained. In the case of green substrates, the co-sintering process provides a diffusion depth of 85-100 micron. In the as-sintered case, a uniform depth of 40-65 microns was reached. The surfaces were characterised by micro-hardness, corrosion and tribocorrosion testing, and the results showed that hardened surfaces presented lower tendency to corrosion both under static conditions and under sliding.Funds were provided by Spanish Government (programme MINECO, ref. Research published in scientific journals in various fields of social sciences such as sychology, psychiatry and communication science has enabled us to conclude that the content displayed in the media, including advertising, are enhancers of disorders and contribute significantly to body issatisfaction in relation to the perceived idea of beauty, it also facilitates the development of weight loss strategies in women and gain of muscle mass in men

    Asymmetrical structure of ionization and kinematics in the Seyfert galaxy NGC 5033

    We present integral field spectroscopy of NGC 5033, a low luminosity Seyfert galaxy. The observations were made with INTEGRAL, a fiber based system operating at the WHT. The intensity map of the Hβ\beta emission line represents a spiral or ring-like pattern of HII regions. On the contrary, the [OIII] intensity map morphology is markedly anisotropic. The strong morphological differences imply that the [OIII] emitters represent highly ionized gas illuminated by the central source. The [OIII] map morphology is compatible with a biconical structure of ionization induced by strong extinction in the galaxy disc that also obscures half of the spheroidal stellar bulge. We identify the spectrum corresponding to the Seyfert 1 nucleus from the presence of Hβ\beta broad emission lines. This spectrum is located in a region where strong extinction is expected but exhibits the bluest spectral energy distribution. The Seyfert 1 nucleus seems to be offcenter with respect to the stellar rotation center. This result has been also found in other Seyfert galaxies and interpreted in terms of a past merger. The offcentering could indicate the presence of nonsymmetric departures in the gravitational potential which could be fueling the active nucleus. The kinematics of the [OIII] emitters show important deviations at a kpc scale with respect to the stellar velocity field and show features related to the asymmetrical morphology of the high ionization region.Comment: 9 pages, accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysics.     Diversity of HLA Class I and Class II blocks and conserved extended haplotypes in Lacandon Mayans.

    Here we studied HLA blocks and haplotypes in a group of 218 Lacandon Maya Native American using a high-resolution next generation sequencing (NGS) method. We assessed the genetic diversity of HLA class I and class II in this population, and determined the most probable ancestry of Lacandon Maya HLA class I and class II haplotypes. Importantly, this Native American group showed a high degree of both HLA homozygosity and linkage disequilibrium across the HLA region and also lower class II HLA allelic diversity than most previously reported populations (including other Native American groups). Distinctive alleles present in the Lacandon population include HLA-A*24:14 and HLA-B*40:08. Furthermore, in Lacandons we observed a high frequency of haplotypes containing the allele HLA-DRB1*04:11, a relatively frequent allele in comparison with other neighboring indigenous groups. The specific demographic history of the Lacandon population including inbreeding, as well as pathogen selection, may have elevated the frequencies of a small number of HLA class II alleles and DNA blocks. To assess the possible role of different selective pressures in determining Native American HLA diversity, we evaluated the relationship between genetic diversity at HLA-A, HLA-B and HLA-DRB1 and pathogen richness for a global dataset and for Native American populations alone. In keeping with previous studies of such relationships we included distance from Africa as a covariate. After correction for multiple comparisons we did not find any significant relationship between pathogen diversity and HLA genetic diversity (as measured by polymorphism information content) in either our global dataset or the Native American subset of the dataset. We found the expected negative relationship between genetic diversity and distance from Africa in the global dataset, but no relationship between HLA genetic diversity and distance from Africa when Native American populations were considered alone

    Massively parallel computing on an organic molecular layer

    Current computers operate at enormous speeds of ~10^13 bits/s, but their principle of sequential logic operation has remained unchanged since the 1950s. Though our brain is much slower on a per-neuron base (~10^3 firings/s), it is capable of remarkable decision-making based on the collective operations of millions of neurons at a time in ever-evolving neural circuitry. Here we use molecular switches to build an assembly where each molecule communicates-like neurons-with many neighbors simultaneously. The assembly's ability to reconfigure itself spontaneously for a new problem allows us to realize conventional computing constructs like logic gates and Voronoi decompositions, as well as to reproduce two natural phenomena: heat diffusion and the mutation of normal cells to cancer cells. This is a shift from the current static computing paradigm of serial bit-processing to a regime in which a large number of bits are processed in parallel in dynamically changing hardware.Comment: 25 pages, 6 figure
